IELTS Listening Practice: 7 Habits That Raise Your Score

How to practise IELTS Listening effectively: prediction, word limits, spelling, distractors and reviewing transcripts after each test.

Predict before you listen

Use the reading time to decide whether each gap needs a number, a name, a noun or a verb. Prediction makes answers easier to catch.

Respect the word limit and spelling

An answer over the word limit is marked wrong, and so is a misspelt word. Practise dates, numbers and spelled-out names.

Learn from the transcript

After each practice test, read the transcript for every wrong answer and find the exact line that gave the answer. This shows which distractors caught you.
