How the IELTS Band Score Is Calculated
Understand IELTS band scores: the 0–9 scale, how the overall band is averaged and rounded, and how raw Listening and Reading scores convert.
Averaging and rounding
Add the four skill bands and divide by four, then round to the nearest half band. An average of 6.25 becomes 6.5, and 6.75 becomes 7.
Raw scores in Listening and Reading
The number of correct answers out of 40 is converted to a band. Conversions differ slightly between tests, so treat any table as a guide.
